Lab 1 - hostname and uname commands

Hi all,

I'm looking at the incoming lab 1 submittals and noticing most people are not answering Q6 correctly and only half are answering Q8 correctly:

6) [Part 2] What is the name of the local computer?

8) What command shows you the name of the computer?

It is important to distinguish between the name of the computer and the name of the operating system. For example, in Part 1, the name of the remote computer you are logging into is opus (the full name is opus.cabrillo.edu). The name of the operating system running on opus is Linux. Note Q6 asks for the name of the local computer. The name of the local computer will not be opus and it will not be the name of an operating system.

I've updated slides 59 and 65 in http://simms-teach.com/docs/cis90/cis90lesson1.ppt to clarify the difference between the uname and hostname commands to help you get the correct answers.

You can submit as many times as you wish up to the deadline. Each new submittal overwrites the previous.
